21/7/2010State Government Announces New Road Safety Body

The Tasmanian Government has announced the formation of a new road safety body. Its Terms of Reference can be found here.

Here is an excerpt from the Minister's media release:

The State Government today announced the formation of a major new body, the Road Safety Advisory Council, which will help shape the future of road safety policy in the State.

The Minister for Infrastructure, Lara Giddings, said the new, consolidated advisory body would replace the current Tasmanian Road Safety Council and Road Safety Task Force, combining their expertise.

"The new Council will provide an effective structure to oversee the development and implementation of policy, community and school based education, and strategies to reduce death and serious injuries on Tasmania's roads.

"The new body will include membership from key road safety organisations, with an independent chair.

"We will be inviting expressions of interest for the position of Chair, which will be advertised in the major Tasmanian newspapers on Saturday 24 July."
