The selection process for the 4th Round of The RACT Community Fund, a joint initiative of RACT & RACT Insurance has now been finalised and we congratulate the following recipients:

Cremorne Play Group

Delta Therapy Dogs Australia's - Pet Partner Program

ParaQuad Tasmania - "Arrive Alive" program

PCYC - Inclusive Trampoline Sports

Play Group Tasmania - "Play Spots"

We extend our sincere thanks to those community organisations throughout Tasmania who submitted applications.

If your application was not successful, please consider applying again in Round 5, which will open in September 2010.

We believe that financial support provided through the RACT Community Fund should be a partnership between organisations through projects or programs that add ongoing value, with the primary aim of enriching the Tasmanian community.

We are currently working to improve our website to include information about Community Fund recipients and how RACT is providing ongoing help to these community organisations.

Please check our website regularly for updates.

Cremorne Play Group was established in 2010 in response to demand from local families, who now attend from a widely dispersed region (Cremorne, CliftonBeach, Sandford, Lauderdale and Rokeby).

Their application was for help to complete the renovation of their courtyard, to make it safer for play.

The area is almost ready, with a shade sail, sandpit, chalk boards and a mural installed thanks primarily to local volunteer donations of materials and hands-on help.

The Community Fund will assist with the purchase of soft fall rubber tiles and gates for added security and comfort in the courtyard play area.

Delta Therapy Dogs Australia's Pet Partner Program is designed to reduce the social isolation often experienced by individuals in facilities, such as the elderly, people in pain, people with mental illness, etc.

A visit from a Delta Therapy Dog team opens up communication and provides a positive and lasting impact on the quality of life of the residents, volunteers and staff they visit.

This group has been successful in their application for funding for the purchase of a portable structure which will provide all-weather shelter for volunteer teams when promoting their services outdoors.

ParaQuad Tasmania's "Arrive Alive" program is based on alcohol/drugs and driving and the associated consequences.

The program includes a competition for Tasmanian youth in tertiary education. Students are invited to develop resource material (dvd, print, or theatre production), to educate their peers about how risk taking behaviour can lead to long term tragedy within a community.

An exhibition and awards night will be held in December as part of International Day celebrating ability.

The Community Fund will provide funding support for the competition prizes.

PCYC "Inclusive Trampoline Sports" This program focuses heavily on the involvement, integration and inclusion of people with a disability as well as at-risk youth.

The provision of the program allows the participants to experience "continual challenges and continual success" through sport, irrespective of background, ability or circumstance.

The flow on benefit to the community is the development of confident, assertive and achieving youth.

The PCYC will be supported by the Fund with the purchase costs of equipment upgrades and/or repairs of existing equipment.

Play Group Tasmania "Play Spots" are mobile community events where experiences for children and their families are set up, such as climbing, balancing, painting, craft, sensory activities, reading and writing.

Play Groups and their support and services are introduced through these events. Play Groups focus on children, with a holistic approach to caring and supporting families. It includes working with parents and carers to heighten their skills as educators, to understand the importance of play and how interaction with children provides the foundation for long-term literacy, numeracy and social development.

The Community Fund will provide funding for a marquee for the North West groups, providing access to rural and isolated families in a large region.
