
Stuart Slade, of Berriedale, has been an RACT Director since 1997 and was elected President and Chairman of the Board in November 2010.
Stuart is Chairman of RACT Pty Ltd, RACT Holdings Pty Ltd and the Governance & Remuneration Committee. He is also a Director of RACT Insurance Pty Ltd and the Australian Automobile Association.
Prior to his current positions, Stuart served on the Road & Traffic Committee for 13 years, ten of those as Chairman. He also represented the RACT on the National Black Spot Program Tasmanian Consultative Panel.
Stuart was a former Sergeant of Police having served over 21 years in Tasmania Police and obtained the position of State Crime Prevention Co-ordinator. He is now the Principal Consultant of Business Continuity Institute of Australia and Risk Management Options. He has been an Alderman with the Glenorchy City Council for nearly 20 years, nine years as a former Deputy Mayor.
His professional qualifications include obtaining a Company Directors' Diploma, a Graduate Diploma in Health Science, a Graduate Certificate in Risk Management and being admitted as a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Member of the Risk Management Institution of Australasia (RMIA), a Chartered Professional Member of the Safety Institute of Australia (SIA) and a Registered Safety Professional (Aust).
Stuart is also the President of the Tasmanian Chapters of the SIA and RMIA.
Peter Joyce, of Sandy Bay, was appointed to the RACT Board in February 2005 and elected Vice President in February 2008. He is a Director of RACT Pty Ltd and RACT Holdings Pty Ltd, Chairman of the Road & Traffic Committee and a member of the Investment, Audit & Risk Management and Governance & Remuneration Committees.
Peter's professional and academic qualifications include a Degree of Master and Commercial Law from Deakin University in 1999 and membership of the Taxation Institute of Australia (Tasmanian Division). Peter is Chairman of Butler McIntyre & Butler, one of the State's largest law firms, his professional specialty being business law.
Kathryn Westwood, of Lindisfarne, joined the Board in July 2006. She is Chairman of the Investment Committee, and a Director of RACT Holdings Pty Ltd and RACT Pty Ltd. She has a broad commercial background in finance and administration, having worked in both the private and public sectors in insurance, forestry, zinc smelting, water and local government industries. Kathryn's current role is Manager Finance, Nyrstar.
Among Kathryn's educational qualifications are a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from the University of Tasmania and a Company Directors Course Diploma. She is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of the National Institute of Accountants, an Associate of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants, a Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and a Member of the Risk Management Institution of Australasia.
Jo Archer, of Launceston, joined the Board in 2006. She is a member of the RACT's Road & Traffic Committee and the Northern Regional Advisory Committee which focuses on regional road safety and traffic issues.
Jo has a strong background in business and economic development, media, event management and destination marketing. After 10 years as Executive Officer for the Launceston Chamber of Commerce, she is now the Launceston Community Engagement and Development Manager for the University of Tasmania. Jo is particularly keen to ensure that the interests of northern Tasmanians are well represented at a state level.
Jo is a Director of the St Giles Society, a Councillor of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (Tas Division) and a Member of the UTAS Faculty of Business Advisory Board.
Ted Best AM, of Battery Point, has been a Director since 1994 and served as President from 2004 to 2007. During that period, he also served as a Director of the Australian Automobile Association. Ted is a member of the Road & Traffic and Investment Committees and a Director of RACT Pty Ltd and RACT Holdings Pty Ltd.
Ted holds the qualifications of Bachelor of Engineering with 1st Class Honours and Bachelor of Science (University of Tasmania) and Master of Business Administration (Deakin University). He is a Justice of the Peace, a Fellow of the Australian Institution of Engineers and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. For 42 years, Ted had a distinguished career with Cadbury-Schweppes Pty Ltd.
David Catchpole, of Sandy Bay, has been a Director since 1989 and served as President of the Club between 1994 to 1997. He also served as a Director of the Australian Automobile Association during that period. David is a Director of RACT Pty Ltd and RACT Holdings Pty Ltd.
His professional and academic qualifications include a Bachelor of Economics Degree from the University of Tasmania and a Diploma of Financial Planning. He is a Fellow of the Australian Society of CPAs, a Certified Financial Planner and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. David is a Principal of Shadforth Financial Group.
In October 2007, David was granted Honorary Life Membership of the RACT for special services rendered.
Bruce Clark joined the RACT Board in March 2008 and is a member of the Road & Traffic Committee. A resident of Burnie, Bruce was Managing Director of Clarks Home Hardware (formerly Les Clark & Sons), a family business operating in Burnie for 61 years until the sale of the business in 2007.
He has had close links with the RACT through his active involvement over the past 23 years as a member of the Club's North West Regional Advisory Committee which focuses on regional road safety and traffic issues. He was also a board member of the Burnie Port Corporation for 14 years (four as Deputy Chairman).
Bruce also maintains strong community involvement through his membership of the Rotary Club of Burnie and the Burnie Chamber of Commerce.
Peter Dixon, of Launceston, joined the RACT Board in July 2007. He is a member of the Road & Traffic and Audit & Risk Management Committees, and Chairman of the RACT's Northern Regional Advisory Committee which focuses on regional road safety and traffic issues.
Peter has extensive legal and business experience, having obtained his Bachelor of Laws in 1967 at the University of Melbourne and an MBA at the University of Tasmania in 1995. He is Associate Dean (Teaching & Learning) and Lecturer in Management within the Faculty of Business at the University of Tasmania.
Robin Holmes, of Sandy Bay, was elected a Director in 2001 and is currently Chairman of the Audit & Risk Management Committee and a member of the Investment Committee. Robin is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a past Associate of the Australian Society of Accountants.
In 2006, he retired after 45 years in senior management roles in large public and private companies throughout Australia, the most recent being 11 years as General Manager, Tasmanian Redline Coaches Pty Ltd., operators of passenger transport and freight services throughout Tasmania.
Chris Langdon, of Sandford, has been a Director since 1988. He is a member of the Audit & Risk Management and Investment Committees. By profession, Chris was a Chartered Accountant and prior to his retirement from practice, he was a Principal of WHK, a national financial services and business advisory company. He currently works part time as a financial controller for a local financial planning business.
Roger Locke, of Mt Stuart, has been a Director since 1987 and is the Immediate Past President, having held the office of President between 2007 and 2010. In that period, he was also a Director of the Australian Automobile Association.
Roger is a Director of RACT Pty Ltd, RACT Holdings Pty Ltd, RACT Travel Pty Ltd and RACT Insurance Pty Ltd and a member of the Governance & Remuneration and Audit & Risk Management Committees.
Roger's professional qualifications include a Graduate Diploma of Professional Management and he is a Fellow of Engineers Australia. Roger is a Chartered Professional Engineer who retired from full time employment with SEMF Pty Ltd in July 2007.
Tony Stacey AM, of Howrah, has been a Director since 1992 and served as President from 2000 to 2003. He was also a Board member of the Australian Automobile Association and served as President of the AAA from 2002 to 2004. His other Board appointments are as a Director of RACT Pty Ltd, RACT Holdings Pty Ltd, RACT Travel Pty Ltd and a member of the Investment and Road & Traffic Committees.
Tony remains actively involved on the Boards of a number of Tasmanian organisations.
Prior to his retirement, Tony was Chief Executive and a Director of Blundstone Pty Ltd. In October 2007, Tony was granted Honorary Life Membership of the RACT for special services rendered and in June 2008, he was recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours for his service to the footwear manufacturing industry and to the community through executive roles with a range of arts, motoring and service groups.
